Percentage Points vs Percentage Change
See the difference between a rate moving from 2% to 3% and a number increasing by 50%.
Compare two rates carefully
The tool shows both the simple change in percentage points and the relative percentage change.
Why the wording matters
From 2% to 3% is a movement of one percentage point. Relative to the 2% starting rate, it is a 50% increase. Both descriptions can be mathematically true, but they answer different questions.
Use the original unit
Percentage points are best when you are describing a change between two rates. Relative percentage change is best when you are comparing the size of a movement against the original rate. Do not use either to imply a cause or forecast an outcome.
